It belongs to aluminum (calcium) silicate minerals, and two categories of alumina and calcium oxide in mineral administration.The chemical composition of garnet change is large, and the general chemical formula is A3B2 (SiO4) 3, wherein A represents divalent calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and other cations, b represents a cation such as trivalent aluminum, iron, chromium, manganese.The same name of the garnet is different due to the different origins, and its chemical components are different.

The garnet is generally different from crystalline particles, with a moderate hardness, high melting point, good toughness, and chemical stability.

Application field and technical indicators

The garnet hardness is moderate, the toughness is good, the grinding force is large, the particle size is uniform. It is excellent natural abrasive material in the optical, electronics, machinery, printing, building, instrumentation, metallurgical geology.Application, in addition, garnet has also been applied in high-tech fields such as jewelry, petrochemical, laser and computers.

Different uses have different quality requirements for garnet, and the quality requirements of several major use of garnet are as follows.

(1) Grinding material

Advanced abrasives generally use iron-aluminum garnet production, requiring hardness of not less than 7.5, and the garnet content is greater than 93%, which can produce sharp angle in a certain pressure, and will not break into powder and lose grinding efficiency.The blasting abrasive requires 75 to 80% of the garnet content.

(2) Filter media

General requirements are iron-aluminum garnet, purity of 98% or more, particle size range 0.25 ~ 5mm, the structure of garnet, the particles do not disintegrate, dissolved in the acid, is less than 2%, and the granular shape requires circular and angular angles.

(3) Gem Materials

Require garnet color, clean and transparent, crystalline particle size, generally red, purple, green, and rose.

The deep purple transparency is higher and the hardness is more than 7 or more

(4) Bearings of clock and precision instruments

Require the purity of garnet, good crystallization, high hardness, good heat resistance.

Processing Technology

Applications, flotation, magnetic selection, and chemical mineralization methods have been applied in the mineralization purification of garnet.
